Daniel DuVal, a French Huguenot architect born in Normandy, arrived in Virginia in 1701.
His descendent family that I've found so far now numbers over 25,000 people.
They have gone to all 52 United States, Canada and beyond - many as early pioneers.
They have lived the family motto (Pro Patria) and served their country in and beyond the call of duty.
As his 9th generation daughter, I have researched his descendent family for over four decades.
What I've found has been......beyond amazing.
My ultimate goal is to create a social history of the Daniel DuVal family, which will be a free download available to anyone who is interested.
The difference between a genealogy and a social history is the difference between bones and life.
A genealogy gives names, lineage, dates and (occasionally) places.
Social history tells how real people experienced their lives within
the context of everything going on around them, and gives an important perspective on history, ancestors, and who we are today.
As I create a virtual cemetery and a photo gallery of DuVal descendents here, I hope, if you discover you are a part of
this family, you will join and share. Just email me or register. Then you'll be able to download whatever you need for your own
branch or twig.
If you would, think about how any member of your leaf or twig or branch is special. It could be anything from having a passion for something,
having overcome a certain challenge in their life, to not having overcome something despite trying. Please let me know if someone in our DuVal family
